Can we get a pre-setup check of the java version under $JAVA_HOME before proceeding with any commands that require it?

Otherwise, if you run this with 1.4.2, a whole load of untidy exceptions are thrown complaining about compatibility.

I am no shell expert. If you can provide an example on how to implement this in shell (or better yet, a patch :), that would be awesome.

You can simply issue a pull request. I will merge it in the next version of glu. github makes this process very easy.
