Problem Description

When a user upgrades to a new version of Portainer, there's a potential issue during the database migration stage. If an error occurs at this point, the user may find themselves with a newer Portainer server version but an older database version. This situation can result in various issues, including potential conflicts, feature breakages, or a less-than-optimal user experience.

Expected Behavior

In the event of a database migration failure, the Portainer server should halt the upgrade process and prevent further progression.

Actual Behavior

Even db migration failed, portainer server still upgraded to later version, end up with mismatch portainer server version and db version.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Upgrade from CE to EE by in-app upgrade button
  • Manually upgrade from CE to EE or EE to later version of EE
