I don't think there is any need nowadays for these sets to be in a weird state. it has little practical impact on the game besides confusing newer players and being a slight disappointment to the few that have or can achieve good scores on them. as a developer of third-party stuff I also have had to write weird special-case code to deal with these sets before.

to address some old concerns i remember...

  • pp-wise, the TD mod solved the core issue long ago. even if a non-TD player created some insane strategy to cheese the hard TAG patterns, it just doesn't compare to the scores people are getting on ranked maps now.
  • mapping/gameplay wise, there was some argument like "these should never have been approved", but that too is dubious in context of so many other ranked/approved maps that in no way meet modern standards, as well as newer maps that have TAG gameplay ranked

I think all of the maps in question can be found by searching for Loved difficulties that belong to a Ranked or Approved set, I'm suggesting that these diffs should be changed to once again match the rest of the set.
