Support for character type data?

Is there a plan to add support for character/string type data to FBM and big_read? If not, are there any R packages you recommend for working with character/string data that is larger than available RAM?

The problem with strings is that they do not have the same size. So, no support planned in this package.

Have a look at package {disk.frame}, or any data base that you can then manipulate with {d(b)plyr}.
