we use backbone at http://www.ibikecph, and i think it helps structure things, and makes it easier to add new features.

Currently we don't have much custom JS code. Most of the heavy lifting is done by LRM.
For our own controls, we get most of the interesting stuff from Leaflet itself (it has its own implementation of classes and extend).
