Feature Suggestion: Tile Servers in config #36
Comments
It's not impossible, but it certainly adds complexity. Also, it looks like the Getlost maps are OSM data but styled like the old Australian Topo Maps? I did include the OpenTopoMaps to try and get some topo data in, but I can understand why the 'old style' would be preferred, especially if you've been using OziExplorer for a long time! |
GetLost get their map data predominantly from government GIS servers, so they use the same source data as the old style topo maps. They also use similar appearance, which as you suggest, is familiar to many. Because getlost use LocationSA data they have a greater level of detail than opentopo (in our area at least). For example, see the screenshots attached for the two maps in the same area at zoom level 13 (a random place within the general region sondes regularly land in SA). Sometimes opentopo seems to have better contour information, however the LocationSA track and structure data is far superior. |
Sure - for your purposes this looks good, but it's not something I'd add into chasemapper by default as it's only suitable for Australia. I'll have to look into a more flexible way of adding in other tileservers, for now downloading them is probably your best option. |
I think it would be useful if tile servers could be configured in the horusmapper.cfg file (or another config file).
My friends and I are about to start using topographic maps from getlost.com.au, and while we have downloaded them and intend to use them from the offline map folder, I think it would be useful to be able to specify tile servers from the config.
I understand that the tile server details are included in the frontend template, so I get this ins't necessarily trivial.
