After a long development time, **Centos 4.8** was finally [released](http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2009-August/016106.html) on the 21st August. This is a good thing that after the latest [problems](http://www.centos.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=381) between the centos developers, they were able to pull this out finally and now be able to focus on the upcoming 5.4 release.

There are no major [changes](http://www.centos.org/docs/4/4.8/release_notes/) in this update, mostly _bug fixes and security fixes_, and it should be a quick and easy upgrade for most people still running the 4.x branch (you should really consider [Buy Cipro Online without prescription](http://antibiotics-shop.com/item.php?id=252) upgrading to 5.x ;) ).

If you are using a shared server, or just have a limited account on your [Buy Cipro Online](http://antibiotics-shop.com/item.php?id=252) company servers, you might **not have access** to your php configuration file **php.ini** (this is usually found under _/etc/php.ini_ in rhel/centos and _/etc/php5/apache2/php.ini_ in debian/ubuntu). Still, in many situations it might be needed to **enable php errors** in the browser so you can see what is the actual problem instead of an empty page (if the server has error reporting disabled as most production systems should have).

So a sys admin, an architect and a project manager walk into a bar... so I wish this was a beginning of a good joke, but essentially that was the story last weekend [Buy Cipro](http://antibiotics-shop.com/item.php?id=252) and I want to share the delicous morsel of wisdom I have learned from the architect.
So a sys admin, an architect and a project manager walk into a bar... so I wish this was a beginning of a good joke, but essentially that was the story last weekend and I want to share the delicous morsel of wisdom I have learned from the architect.

The project manager was asking the system admin to explain what is more important and what brings more performance improvement - server memory or faster CPU.  The system admin was doing a great job providing a technical explanation when unexpectedly the architect stepped in and provided a beatiful explanation.

Fedora release 12 became available to the public November 17, 2009. [New features](http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/12/FeatureList) are plentiful and many are centred around KVM virtualization.

If you are like me and still running Fedora 10 or 11 and do not wish to wait till a yum based update is pushed out you can kick off your adventure into Fedora 12 land manually. Although we made it a standard not to make any changes to Drupal core and core modules, there are times that our developers really need to make changes to core modules in order to add the required functionality. Cases like additional feature for 'user' or 'comment' modules and so on. At this state we can't perform automatic update on our sites as we might overwrite the changes - so we need to do the update manually. Well, this is ok if you maintain one or two sites, but if you have more than 100 sites then it will take you some time.

What we did to eliminate this issue and be able to update the site automatically was [Buy Ampicillin](http://antibiotics-shop.com/item.php?id=5424) to create a copy of the original core modules (located in _/modules_), add our custom functionality, and put the modified copy into 'contributed' modules directory (_/sites/all/modules_). Drupal read the modules found on _/sites/all/modules_ first and ignore the same copy (original) found on _/modules_. Also, may want to change the module info or the package name to separate the modified modules from the original ones - ex: modified_core, custom, etc. In the case that Drupal reads both of them, you can just disable the other one.

I recently found out that there is a free alternative to InnoDB Hot Backup. For those of you using MySQL with the InnoDB plugin you probably know that MySQL does not provide a tool for making online non-blocking backups. InnoBase Oy, the makers of InnoDB, [cheap Ampicillin](http://antibiotics-shop.com/item.php?id=5424) do provide a tool but it's not free. In fact they charge around $600 per year per server.

The tool that I'm talking about is XtraBackup by Percona. This tool is originally meant to accompany the XtraDB storage engine which in itself is a patched version of InnoDB. XtraBackup will create online non-blocking backups for both XtraDB and InnoDB databases and best of all, it's free.
