it is a little problematic that there are multiple community libraries, tough for beginners to pick which one to use and why.

maybe now that google is part of the rust foundation :)

Any progress on this? I see more and more rust projects using protobuffs, and I'm kinda tired of writing codegen allover again for each project.

I can see this project has a rust directory, but it seems never release.

I'm not quite familiar with bazel but perhaps we can release a 0.1.0 so that we can start to receive user's feedback and thus move the crate with certain user cases. I suppose it can bring more motivation. At least I'd prefer my time invest in debugging and developing can be paid back by using my work.
