Sudden crashes. Do not install. #6

Installed the extension,
updated the JDBC driver to something (HSQLDB 2.7.2? or was it there before?) via the new Options menu entry,
restarted my database with xdbc... instead of jdbc...
shutdown compact'ed the database
restarted Libreoffice Base

and could not see ANY progress in speed or something else. The new Administration menu entries are not working. I had sudden crashes of my database documents (Base forms) without any message or comment before.

So I tried to rebuild my old installation, uninstalled that extension, reconnected with jdbc... again, and had to see that the database had somewhat changed so I could not re-establish a connection with the old driver.

So at this moment I can only warn: do not install that crap in this state (version 1.1.1). And cheers to my backups.

Hi NextTherapist,

What was your version of HsqlDB Database before your failed attempt to migrate to jdbcDriverOOo (ie: HsqlDB 2.7.2)?
Would it be possible to have an example of the Base forms used?

I would still like to point out that I can get 7 different extensions to work with jdbcDriverOOo, however I confirm that there are problems in the administration menu, but I don't believe that this is used by many people...

And I take this opportunity to give the necessary steps to migrate data from HsqlDB 1.8.x to the latest version 2.7.2. with jdbcDriverOOo.

  • First of all, you must make a backup of your data.
  • Then this migration must be done in 2 steps as explained in the section: How to migrate an embedded database
    • First from 1.8.x to 2.4.x or 2.5.0
    • Then from 2.4.x or 2.5.0 to 2.7.2

If you do not follow this procedure you will more quickly put your HsqlDB 1.8 data directly in the trash.

I would like to put this issue as good first issue so that it is an example of what not to do... and you should not confuse TripAdvisor with Github.
