Existing code has potential snags for someone coming to for the first time- for instance, the places that the device is defined are all over the place, do a global grep for Dev3 (originally used) || Dev1 || Dev2 etc

Pin this into a conf file in the main directory so it's explicit and obvious.

Also seperate out device specific parameters that someone may want to tweak into a configuration file, but anything that's mere housekeeping, put that in the device module so it's out of the way.
