I just went to put an issue in with pre-commit, and it looks good:

Here are the docs: https://docs.github.com/en/communities/using-templates-to-encourage-useful-issues-and-pull-requests/syntax-for-githubs-form-schema

We could replace our "paste this value between in this markdown code block" with boxes that encapsulate this

This looks great although in a few exceptional cases I find it a bit annoying, e.g., for meta-issues when none of the available templates really fit, like #6293.

I like this suggestion community/community/discussions/9964 but what should we do in the meantime?

  • A. do nothing (we could still fill the form then edit the issue just afterwards)
  • B. add another, very generic template
  • C. enable blank issues with blank_issues_enabled=true
