If you make the Single-Symbol Style tab wide enough the labels for the three items Unit, Transparency, and Color are anchored to the left but the controllers head off to the right, leading to a huge gap between text label and control.
Another possible tweak to this UI might be to only stretch the Saved Styles box when stretching vertically - currently everything just gets spaced out more and it doesn't look too good.

on QGIS 2.13, Unit, Transparency, and Color controllers are also sticked to the left and there is no problem with them.
