Original Redmine Issue: 5945

Redmine category:labelling

The point displacement renderer is a great new feature. Currently, though, if you add labels to the points, they are displaced with a non-configurable offset from the point symbols. Ideally, the user should be able to configure the displacement settings. In my case, I want the labels to land on the points themselves to create a labeled shield (a number inside a circle). Unfortunately, the labels are well outside of the symbols and I cannot modify that placement.

I've added a small screenshot to show how labels are being rendered on my system in case this is unique to OS X. My preference would be for the labels to land on the symbols themselves for my particular usage.

I think this is really a duplicate of #15454

Perhaps #15454 is a duplicate of this, or a different, possibly better, explanation of the same problem. This bug report was 69 reports sooner. ;-)

Yes I agree, #15454 is duplicate of this ticket, but it also describes a more wider issue: the lack of options for the labels when using the "point displacement" renderer. Anyway I think that we should merge this two tickets.

Using version 3.16.3 a work around for the original poster is to use Font Marker in the Renderer Settings.

If I'm correct, this one is supposed to be fixed by #9085

it both does and does not answer this request.
It does supply a configurable offset, so in that respect it is fixed, but it does not allow you to produce the figure that the OP wanted to achieve.
Using version 3.24.0 I still have to use the font marker (as shown in my comment from Feb 8 2021) to be able to reliably put a label inside the point symbolology.

I do not think that this issue should be closed yet., unless you consider the fact that using a compound symbol with a font maker does what is required an "answer".

Yes, given the title of the issue, #9085 does "fix" it, but it still does not allow for what the OP was attempting. Given the spirit of what the OP was looking for, this issue is miss-named.

please, can we have a second opinion on what is the issue that this ticket is trying to solve?
