I heard about 'template projects', and found out that I was supposed to create a normal project in my .qgis/project_templates directory.

What about a new feature:

  • in the 'Save Project As' dialog you only have 'QGis files' now (should this not be 'QGIS project file' ??)
We could add an option 'QGIS project template'.
Upon selecting the 'template' option (default option would still be 'QGIS project file'), the dialog should immediatly switch to the .qgis/project_templates directory and so that project is immediatly there as project template.

AND/OR:
When 'New Project from Template' has no subitems (as was with me), maybe add an menu item 'Save Project as Template' (which brings up the normal dialog but with 'QGIS project template' selected, and opened IN the .qgis/project_templates directory

As a bonus, it would be nice if this project then came immediately available in the 'New Project from Template' menu.
