QGIS Browser is almost useless without this feature, at least for me, because whenether I map a WMS/PostGIS/etc I usually want to work on that layers too using QGIS Desktop, but I always need to organize data, rename and move stuff around, certifying myself I didn't forget any of the shapefile's files (shx, dbf, ...).

I agree, renaming and copying shapefiles in the QGIS browser (as in Esri ArcCatalog) would be a great improvement (over renaming all shapefile-files manually...).

Pretty sure this can be done.

@roya0045 I have sent you a message on gitter.

I can try to fix this, renaming files will be useful for sure.

@suricactus if you want to do this you can, I just thought this was a thing that could be done already.

To do this one would have to copy the files, change their name and then change the source of all associated vectors. Otherwise you will hit a system lock if the layer is in use. This is pretty much the same as 'save as' at this point. :/

Take into account that SHP can have several extra files, like indexes, qpj, etc. Also there is the case of raster external overviews, raster world files, etc. There is also the case of datasources that are directories and not files (i.e. file geodatabases).
