Original Redmine Issue: 19398
Affected QGIS version: 3.3(master)
Redmine category:map_canvas
I have one my computers with the screen turned to portrait orientation with resolution 1050 pixels wide. When Qgis starts up the initial window fits OK in this screen width, however the map canvas window resizes to a greater width and cannot be resized smaller.
There are few screens around that have a vertical resolution greater than about 1000 (e.g. 1280x1024, 1680x1050, 1920x1080) so a lot of every day screens will have the same issue. There are of course also screens with 1600x900 and 1366x768 in existence.
There is an issue with the status bar size at the bottom, the ideal way of addressing this would be to make the status bar controls be toolbar widgets sitting on toolbars that can be dragged around like the others.

I'm at a QGIS training session with projector capable of pushing out 1024x768. QGIS sucks really hard on such screen — a lot of dialogs are way wider or taller, cause resizing of parent dialogs, main window can not be resized to fit on screen etc. Real :-(
@enzedrailmaps I've tested this issue with the same resolution on QGIS 3.22.2, and I can adjust the map canvas to match the width of the screen, just barely tho. Is this still an issue with you? I can confirm that the status bar is not displayed correctly with this resolution.
