Currently, it doesn't seem possible to re-order sections in the report layout composer. Once a section is created, it seems to be fixed in its position in the document (short of editing the project's xml, I suppose).

I would expect to be able to drag and drop sections where I need them, or to be able to use up and down arrow buttons to reorder as needed.

@nyalldawson are there any plans for this in your mind already?

No concrete plans -- will do if there's sponsorship or possibly in another round of layout crowdfunding efforts..

This is a showstopper really - it makes it really painful to use what should otherwise be a killer feature in QGIS :-(

If somebody need workararound to organise sections:

  • Store your QGIS project to XML-format (aka .qgs)
  • Open project file with your favorite text editor (like vi, emacs or notepad++)
  • Find your report from
  • Cut and paste "
    " lines to right order

Not nice solution and you can also destroy your QGIS project. But save a lot of work ;-)
