A nice UI/UX aspect of ESRI products is the fact that layers are aliased in selection drop-downs and other menus by their group membership and name.

This helps with distinguishing multiple similar layers.

For instance,

In a project that has multiple LRS layers, you'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart in QGIS currently, especially if they're all in the same CRS.

If an ESRI-like aliasing was adopted, this problem is reduced.

So in my example, I have multiple LRS layers as so:
LRS

LRS

NYSDOT Milepoint

LRS

TOB_Milepoint

LRS

If I went into the layer picker, they might show as LRS\LRS, NYSDOT Milepoint\LRS, and TOB_Milepoint\LRS, instead of LRS, LRS, LRS in the picklist.
