Hello,
I have 1.5gb on my C drive (yes, it is small, it's a SSD) and chose to install QGIS wholly on my E drive.

After a minute of installing, my computer crashed some applications, then terminated the install process and I found the cause was QGIS had dump over 1Gb of data on my C drive.

There really is no need to do this. When you select to install on a specific drive, it should do that.

Regardless, even if it needs to use C drive temporarily or permanently, it should be doing a disk size check to say whether it can install, rather than just crashing.

Now, of course, I need to figure out where all these files have been dumped because the installer has closed down as well.

thanks.

I can still confirm that this issue occurs in the most recent versions. 3.22.4 and 3.24.0.
Even though I've installed QGIS on disc G:, disc C seems to be affected. This might be done on purpose, maybe depending on the disk in which the OS is installed on. For the time being, I'm not able to debug it further.
