Using a Macbook Air, with 2.18 and previous releases, using the trackpad to zoom in/out, the zoom swings from almost the whole world to extremely close to the ground with only tiny movements.
The zoom feature itself does work - it's just that it needs recalibrating to move probably 1000 times slower.
This would be a major usability improvement - at present this makes the trackpad zoom unusable, and if it is used accidentally, is very difficult to recover the map location.
