Georeferencer crashes QGIS when chosing an invalid input layer #47586
Comments
@pjkrause vector georeferencing is being added to qgis, but not yet available on current releases. Will be soon on master. Also due to the proprietary nature of DWG is unlikely you will be able to georef directly a DWG, you will likely need to import it before in qgis using the proper tool. |
That said, qgis georef should not crash at selecting an invalid layer. |
OK, I will leave this with you under the changed title. I will leave the DWG file available in DropBox (link in my original Steps) in case you need it to reproduce the issue. Yes, I see importing DWG even using the proper tool is a bit tricky. Importing from DXF seems to work better. Many thanks for looking at this. |
@pjkrause it is, but is not QGIS fault, is the format that sucks. |
@gioman Yes indeed - I certainly didn't mean any criticism of QGIS for that! |
Is this still an issue? Linked file is no longer available. |

What is the bug or the crash?
I am trying to use QGIS to georeference a CAD file. I open Raster/Georeferencer and then click on the Open Raster icon. The first time I tried this it warned me that it would only accept DWG R2000 [ACAD1015]. So my colleague has exported from AutoCAD in DWG R2000.
However, as soon as I select this file and click Open, QGIS crashes. I don't believe there is an issue with the file as it opens fine in ArcGIS.
I tried this in 3.22 first and then upgraded to QGIS 3.24. However, I get the same response. Sincere apologies if I am making a newbie error but if there is an issue with the file I should at least see a warning message?
Steps to reproduce the issue
Open a project and set an Open Street Map base layer:
Double click XYZ Tiles/OpenStreetMap
Set project CRS to EPSG:3587
Zoom to WSG84 (-0.473945,51.313339)
Select Raster/Georeferencer
Click Open Raster icon
Select attached file and click "Open"
QGIS crashes at this point with no warnings.
The file I am trying to geolocate can be downloaded from here:
