短期记忆（英语：Short-term memory，也称为primary memory或者active memory）是记忆的一种类型，它可以在头脑中让少量信息保持激活状态，在短时间内可以使用。短期记忆的持续时间（在没有复述或者激活的情况下）以秒计算。与长期记忆相比，短期记忆对信息的储存时间较短，信息储存的容量也很有限。关于短期记忆的容量，一个常常引用的数字是7 ± 2 个元素。

短期记忆需要和工作记忆相区别。工作记忆指的是用来临时存储和处理信息的结构和过程（详见下文）。
