In Opera's bookmark keyword dialog (Shift+F2 by default) and in DWB the quickmarks fly, i.e. as soon as the string is unique, it launches the address without the need to press Enter. Is this possible in Qutebrowser? Or are there reasons why quickmarks should not work like this?

My humble opinion on this:

So here's what often happens to me in dwb: I have mdweb set to my personal wiki. So I press Bmdweb and I'm there in a new tab and all is good.

But I make a typo, and press Bndweb I don't have any quickmarks starting with a n, so I go back to normal mode and issue d to close the tab, we doesn't do anything, and b opens the quickmark menu again. Damn!
I also sometimes issue the wrong quickmark (I have a bunch starting with the same prefix, like api-*) and find the extra useful.

I understand why this is useful, but I personally don't like this behaviour, and it's one of my annoyances with dwb.
I'm not against having an options for this of course :-) Maybe something like quickmark-auto-open and quickmark-auto-close.

I also prefer the current behavior, but adding this as an option would be good.

I don't really get what the difference between quickmark-auto-open and -close would be - could you elaborate?

I don't know what he means by quickmark-auto-close but quickmark-auto-open would be on-the-fly behaviour, of course :) People would naturally prefer either one or the other kind of behaviour. They would not be switching between them, so this option makes sense somewhere deep in the settings, not as an easy toggle.

  • auto-open: Open the quickmark when it's a match
  • auto-close: Close the quickmarks when there's no match (so this would prevent the "typo and do all sorts of stuff in the browser"-error).
