For R packages in this repo, we should probably agree on a license (in case there's no restricted third-party libraries involved).
What are peoples' preferences?

I suggest you do what RStudio and many other orgs do, which is to require people/orgs who want to contribute nontrivial patches to sign a CLA. This gives you the right to change the license in the future without going back to each individual contributor and getting their agreement. https://www.clahub.com/pages/why_cla It is a little bit of a pain to have to do this paperwork, but there are solutions like CLAHub that automate away most of the busywork.

I still think this is something that all contributors to r-spatial org should at least have a common understanding about. Please feel free to add your comments. Maybe @edzer and I should have a talk about this next time we meet (EGU, OpenGeoHub summer school?)
