Chromecast support #17
Comments
+1 The SDK is now openly available: https://developers.google.com/cast/ |
Unfortunately this Chromecast SDK seems to officially only support Android, iOS, and Chrome/Chrome OS. If you can find a POC that lets arbitrary Mac apps to use the Cast SDK, let me know! |
Don't know much about this but I'm pretty sure Chromecast icon would just show up if the app would display a Chrome webview if the browser is installed. Not sure if something like that is possible (?) |
@benic: It won't be feasible to switch out the WebKit/Safari base for Chrome. OS X comes with a simple API to use WebKit, I don't think there's something similar for Chrome that is as integrated. |
Indeed, just looked it up more in detail and the closest thing would be to compile and embed your own Chromium ( https://code.google.com/p/chromiumembedded/ ), but then I doubt Chromecast would work with it. Too bad! |
Well now there are two apps that can stream from desktop without chrome. The first is Gear for Google Play https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/gear-for-google-play/id513751032?l=en&mt=12 |
Bumping this, would be really cool to do this! Almost a year since this was last updated, apologies if it's still not feasible. |
It might useful to look into how Popcorn Time integrated their support for Chromecast: |
This one may be a bit of a stretch outside of Chrome, but it would be a great feature to bring it into full parity with the web app.
