If I'm in fullscreen on any of my apps (tested safari, airmail, and terminal) the icon highlights, but the mini-player doesn't open. If I go back to the desktop, the mini-player works great.

I can confirm this issue, apparently it is an operating system limitation that regular applications can't show panels or windows above full-screen applications. Only agent applications can do that, so you'll notice that the mini player will work when you enable "Hide dock icon" in the preferences, restart, and try again. For now, I'm relegating this issue to v1.1.3 instead of the next release so I can get a little more time to work on a solution.
