Does the traditional way of using New Relic work or do we have to use their new distributed tracing tools?

This is likely not going to happen. After talking to Adam Johnson the emphasis will be on smaller instrumentation with Ruby falling second to Node. No work is being done to hack traditional APM into Lambda because the cardinality and sampling of the events might be an issue. Maybe one day I can hack that up or maybe the new way is better with XRay (if they ever get more work done in it). Still feels like a big lack of visibility and a lot of manual cooking when running traditional applications in Lambda.
