Windows update KB5035942 seems to have broken Disable grouping on the taskbar #174
Comments
@dnorrishill KB5035942 is a preview build. See Troubleshooting "Debug symbols may be unavailable, for example if Microsoft didn't publish debug symbols for a specific Windows preview build". For this reason, none of the taskbar mods from KB5035942 work for me (( |
@m417z Debug log:
|
The log seems fine, did you close and reopen windows that were already open after enabling the mod? |
@m417z just now, with another attempt to take the Previously, after updating to KB5035942, this only resulted "symbol not found" appearing in the logs. Is there any way to force the symbols update process in Windhawk? |
There's no way to do exactly that. For more than one mod, the easiest way is to exit Windhawk from the tray icon menu and then launch it again. |
Interestingly, it has been over 2 days since installing KB5035942 when Windhawk finally updated the symbols. During whose time the laptop was rebooted many times, several attempts were made to turn off and on mods, as I wrote earlier. There were no apparent reasons such as Windows Antivirus notifications. All previous Windows updates were hassle-free, Windhawk restored mods immediately on first boot. |
It really depends on Microsoft. You can enable logs and deduce the symbol file URL, for example:
If the file isn't available, which may be the case in the first day or two after an update becomes available, then mods that rely on symbols won't work. |
OK looks like the symbols may have updated as the extension is working fine now... Will close the issue. Thanks for all your help, much appreciated. |
I have just installed the latest Windows 11 update "2024-03 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5035942)" and since rebooting the "Disable grouping on the taskbar" mod is no longer working.
I can see the mod is loaded in Windhawk but sadly its not doing anything anymore :-(
