Windows Server 2022 (21H1 aka ltsc2022 aka 10.0.20348.169) was released recently and it would be nice to use rke2 with this windows version. This version keeps on improving the containers experience on windows.

Please note that this is a LTS Windows version.

For reference, these are the available base containers images:

@rgl we have this on our roadmap and are currently working on it. Not all cloud providers have 2022 images available which makes validation difficult. As soon as those are available, support will be introduced.

If you are validating this on GitHub Actions, the windows-2022 image is already available.

Azure now also has support for Windows 2022.

Notes:

This will require adding the generation of a 2022 image and adding it to the manifest.

@phillipsj can you elaborate on which versions have the support available?

@travisghansen all versions should now be supported. So standard and data center.

@phillipsj that's helpful as well actually, but I was after which rke2 versions have the necessary bits..

@travisghansen ah, sorry about that. It is best to be using a version of RKE2 1.22.5 or newer. Also keep in mind that Windows Server 2022 has a node port issue upstream. This really isn't an issue outside of node ports.

@phillipsj great! thanks for the info! At this point it seems 2019 would be the version to run with. Sorry for the ignorance, I haven't touched windows in many years and am simply being asked to look at making a csi driver work with it..
