As it stands now, the character type (player, npc, or narrator) is used solely for aesthetic purposes. This also means there can be more than one (or none) character with player type. On the other hand, the actual user interactions depend entirely on the nature of the messages and their transitions. This means that a user might have full control over the actions of an npc character, while no control over the actions of a player character. This leads to confusion on the exact role of the user in the game, so some reconciliation is required.

One possibility is to require exactly 1 Player character to be in the story, and to restrict user-controlled transitions to only lead to messages from that player character.
