from the forum:
I had an idea.

we can now trigger stuff: audio/midi, etc with actions. amazing.

could it be possible to also trigger the 'display' of an image from a slot or action for example in its own size adjustable/dockable window?
maybe with a duration setting etc?

images could then be associated with actions (as we can now with sounds/midi),
so when a user presses/uses a controller button for e.g a macro 'put everything in a folder' a little user chosen image would appear on screen giving instant feedback on what was just triggered.

I'd like it particularly as i have a controller with lots of buttons and forget what buttons i've mapped to where.

so configurable visual feedback on triggered actions...

if you got this to trigger sounds/midi - showing a pic must be easy right?
thanks for any consideration... !

hi guys, further to the above drool worthy idea.. (oh go on Jeffos !) ;)

however a more practical Resources request is to simply have the option to globally DISABLE/ENABLE playing of media files via slot actions.
e.g an on/off switch for the feature.

for example i envisage attaching soundfiles to many of reapers actions for feedback but of course there will be times i will not want the sounds to play, and rather than having duplicate actions and keymappings, a button to mute any mediaslot audio playback would be very useful.

thanks again this is most awesome work amongst all the other gems too.

re the 2nd suggestion my tiny mind failed to realise i could just mute the track the media items are set to play through... sorry. eek.

however the 'display image items too' idea i love and I will give you some festive beer money if you make it happen.. ;)

so nobody wants me to buy them beer? ;)

to recap: display images as media resources via actions, either through the video window as image items do now, or through a seperate display window, or both.

thankyou for any consideration

Hi Jeffos...

I love the updates to resources - it would be so excellent if png's and jpegs could also be 'played' out via actions too. any thoughts on this?

at the moment a png or jpeg placed on the arrange timeline will automatically be displayed in the video window when the play cursor passes it.

all i'd ask if for the addition of .png gif and jpeg to the supported file types for 'media items' then we can select an image, and then we can 'play' them back via media slot actions and the image appears in video window.

did i say i'd buy you beer..

If that was possible it could be used for putting a big recording sign on a monitor in the live room :) I'd use it!

excitedly testing before bed.. ! thanks again. -

1:
however in #23 (reaper 4.14 rc1) my images are displayed behind an alpha blend which i think is to do with your s&m logo..? docked/undocked etc, theme etc. doesn't help.. any ideas? EDIT: prefs / theme> window backround is a factor... ?
see here http://min.us/mbad86Drfw 2: jpeg support possible?

much thanks I don't want to be a pain ironing out kinks, but looking good and should combine with macros and stuff to awesome effect!

I tried to ignore you, Ben! But all these posts where reminding me another place where you can sometimes post excellent ideas (or things you desesperately need) and being awesomely ignored. Frustating, I know.
The difference here is that we have a heart :)

^^ I am kidding, of course! As well as for beers: although they would be welcome, you are just lucky it costed 27 lines of code

About your remarks:

  1. thanks for the screenshot.. this is already fixed in r656 I think, but I guess this "last minute" fix was not included in build Full snapshot of send/receive state #23. It will be available in the next release.. Can you please attach this image just to make sure?
(I implemented this thingy in "rush mode" yesterday evening and I got fooled by the v3 theme (very dark background) when testing.. realized/fixed it a bit too late..)

  2. possible thanks to WDL but it would be a pain in the ass (OSX project updates, no Mac here) and would increase the SWS dll/dylib size for limited interest (IMO). so I propose you to take care of the jpg->png conversions..

I understand your pain... thats why i thought re-mentioning cold hard Euros would help to get a response!

the image was a png i pulled from the net as i only had reaper pngs, and wanted to check it wasn't them. reaper pngs had the same issue.

thats about jpgs..

i guess the only other thing really would be 'stretch to fit' image? - but i get the feeling you've not got the mojo for that, despite beer.

thanks again for the 27 - ha, thats funny, thats also the number of members of the EU, very topical!

Thanks Jeffos mmm that a wide beer - the stretching works great, and display no problem on win now.. :) the only issue i have found was a few window focus issues when undocked, where a key command binded to launch/close the window gets missed until i focus main window, this is resolved when image window is docked however.

a quick question:
is there a way to display an image and execute an action/macro simultaneously, but the image to clear a few seconds later? i have tried the wait actions within macros but the macro isn't executed in full until after the wait time..
so what i get is: image displayed>time passes>then stuff happens & image clears.
instead of: image displayed & stuff happens> time passes > then image clears.

my only other dream is to do with the cycle action editor, a 'reset to point zero in the cycle' after n seconds. (and action to reset)
that could be worth another beer... ;) any thoughts, a 'no' is ok, just nice to know!

in anycase once i've sorted my xmas shopping out, you will be rewarded for putting up with my image fixation. great stuff. merry holidays!
