On Linux/Mac, in order to accomplish line editing (e.g. the ability to erase stuff that has been typed, like when you cursor through command line history) TERMIOS is used to switch into a mode where explicit handling of keystroke echoing is done. Sometimes if there's a crash it doesn't get the message to turn it back on:
The typical answer is to type (without feedback as you're typing it) reset or stty sane.
But this could probably be mitigated by flipping some bit in the termios interface when a command starts to start echoing again...then flip it back when you run INPUT, then flip it back off...in anticipation of a crash.
