Creating this for @geekodour who noticed this behavior, we can use this to track fixes.

@geekadour please confirm if this is still an issue after the following improvements (none of these specifically address this but instead are related to multi-processing)

We've removed bin/find-available.py in the current 1.1 / master branch so unless this is a critical issue for anyone still using the 1.0 series we're going to close this. If this is the case please just open this issue back up.
