transparency of 0 in defaults not respected #9

If you have a transparency of 0 in the defaults, as in

let g:thematic#defaults = {
\ 'transparency': 0,
\ }

and you have a theme that sets transparency to 1 or greater, then the default isn't applied for themes that don't specify a transparency.
