The first surface area call returns a value that is ~5% too large, leading to a KN/pressure/thrust spike that almost resembles erosive burning.

This issue appears to be caused by the fact that the contours right by the core are not smooth. This is probably not something that can by remedied without changing regression calculation significantly.
