Hey @gdude2002,

I am opening this question so other people can see it. Do you have any plans on updating this mod for 1.17?

I suppose at least the models have to be updated, but there could be a whole lot more to do (truthfully I have no idea, you would have to estimate the work needed).

Hey there @koelle25,

At the moment, I don't personally have any plans to continue modding in general. I have my projects to look after, and I'm now running most of the community spaces for the Quilt modloader project - so I don't really have time, even if I didn't burn out.

That said, I believe Azi (the project owner) does have some plans to bring all of his mods here up to 1.17. Here's what needs to be thought about:

  • The model will need to be redone, and someone will need to investigate whether JSON models are the way to go, or whether Geckolib would be useful
  • The fishing loot table needs to be re-examined, and we may be able to move that logic entirely to datapack JSON
  • As the rendering systems have changed, particular attention needs to go to the pink overlay you get when eating raw shrimp - that will likely need to be entirely rewritten from scratch, although I based that code on the visual overlay Minecraft gives you when you go underwater, so it may not be super hard

Otherwise, aside from making sure old worlds work and the entity behaviours still work, I don't think there's much else to worry about. This is not a super complex mod.

Note: I think Azi was talking about potentially porting back to Forge, but I can't confirm that possibility in any way. I guess we'll see
