What would you like Renovate to be able to do?

Make it clear to the user when a transitive dependency has been remediated through removal instead of upgrade.

Did you already have any implementation ideas?

updateLockedDependency() needs to detect this and return it in its results. Could be challenging if the transitive dependency has multiple paths and not all are removed.
