Could it be possible to publish this kernel module on a PPA to make it easier to get integrated and updated with new kernel versions? My intention is to use a hfsx partition for $HOME both for MacOS X Yosemite and (mainly) Ubuntu Mate 15.04. Also, is this intended to be integrated in upstream Linux kernel code?

This module is based on the one from the official kernel tree.
The patches to support the journaling feature of HFS+ are considered untested for this module. If more people signed up to contribute by developing and testing this driver, then yes, once tested, it could end up being merged with the official Linux kernel tree.
So far it's usable, just may damage your filesystem. That would hurt the reputation of the Linux kernel, so nobody wants to take that responsibility unless it's well-tested.
