Installed the Windows 11 update KB5022913 last night, and HDRTray no longer puts an icon in the taskbar. It looks like this update a bunch of taskbar changes, so I'm guessing that's the culprit.

Came here to report the same. I was very sad to see it all of a sudden gone :(

Thanks for letting me know! After installing the update I was able to reproduce & fix the issue.
Updated binaries are available here: https://github.com/res2k/HDRTray/releases/tag/v0.3
