stickers / gifs seem to be standard in most messaging applications at this point, but have not yet made it to ricochet

This is probably gated on

  • file transfer
  • decoding inline images transferred as files safely

which offers little insight on how useful or wanted they are :)

This could happen someday, but it would be after we already do transfer and inline display of arbitrary images as files, as you said. I also have no interest in curating and maintaining a sticker collection, but also won't accept using some online collection of stickers.

Ricochet itself should be slim.
Those who need emoji/build-in image could use it as "Ricochet add-on".

I'm still using IRC/XMPP, and I don't use gif(image) version emoji nor in-message images.
