You're working in the system's root directory (
But you would probably be better off working in a regular user home directory:
Please read the README: This is not an issue with |
This is running
If that doesn't help then you need to clearly state all of the commands that you're using ( Please try to avoid screenshots/photos of the screen as they are not ideal for analysis (e.g. searching) and not everyone can view them easily. |
Hi sorry for the late reply. I was busy with examinations.
|
When that happens it's often a connectivity issue from your machine.
|
It seems fine. Not sure if I should let it download completely or not. If this indicates that my connection is well, what does this signal means for the other one?
|
This is what I get - I'm accessing the repos from Dublin, Ireland via 500Mbps home cable broadband:
|
Your checkout:
seems a lot slower than mine:
Where are you located? |
I am currently in my school's lab. The wifi speed here is actually quite fast for general uses with speeds reaching 500mbps and its good enough for normal usage. Should i stop the cloning process and run |
I would always prefer wired ethernet over wifi.
Probably - it looks like your connectivity to the repos is simply very slow regardless of the LAN speed so you'll just have to be patient I guess...
|
I am currently in Singapore, not sure if the region is a factor in this. If I can't clone. what are the ways to overcome this? It still isnt working. My previous test was actually on cable (sorry about that). |
Well, if you can't clone the required repos then you're not going to be able to get the sources needed to build the toolchain artifacts.
What happens? Any error messages? Did you wait? |
If access to the official Binutils git repo does not work for whatever reason, you may consider a mirror of that. Once you have cloned from the mirror you can switch the remote to point to the official git server. Given that In general, I would always decouple build processes from the requirement of a stable and fast internet connection. Therefore, I use the |
I thought that it wasn't just one repo that was causing issues here though? |
For this For this command

I saw the following in one of the logs above when cloning our repo:
This could be a sign that GitHub repos can be cloned faster. |
Obviously not and the error messages tell you exactly what to do.
In case it's not clear, what @cmuellner is suggesting is to clone the relevant repos once (rather than every time you build the tools) and then use the However, one obvious way to do this is to done |
Here's the terminal output file on the computer. Does this mean I have successfully built the compiler? |
Not necessarily.
|
BTW - I have also been finding the upstream repos to be very slow lately. |
I felt like I did something wrong with these commands. I ran "make linux" in" /home/aaron/new/ riscv-gnu-toolchain". If i were to run "rm -rf /home/aaron/new", wont that remove my installed files too?
|
I was assuming that |
That means if i am going to built it in |
I don't really understand your question. The bottom line is that if you want to do a clean build then you need to delete the previously built toolchain directory or run |
Took most of the day to do a recursive clone even though it's a 500Mbps cable broadband connection and all other connectivity works fine... :-|
|
I will proceed to use the built compiler to build the IBEX simulation, for now, and will rebuild it before i sleep. |
Tried this again today - c. 4 hours wall clock time to do a recursive clone! :-(
|
I have created a new folder in the home directory name
new
, but it still says it doesnt have permission to write. How do i solve this? These are the commands i ran.
