I plan to submit a new CRAN release after #130 is solved, hopefully sometime next week. Any last requests for version 4.4.0? FYI: I will be out of town this weekend and unlikely to be able to do much development then.

There have been so many enhancements since 4.3.0 (see NEWS.md). They all appear to be working, and I want to publish them in a stable release before there is a possibility of breaking them again with work on #126, #129, or #131 on the master branch.

Version 4.4.0 is on its way to CRAN. Subsequent commits solve #129 and thus interfere with back compatibility.
