It appears I am able to exceed the tab limit simply by opening a new tab (e.g. Ctrl-T). This seems to defeat the whole purpose! The limit is enforced for clicked links, which go into the queue.

It is intentional, I want the user to be able to manually open and load a link in a new blank tab, ignoring the limit. It is explained in the description of the Google Store page.
Is this giving you problems with some type of links?
I'm trying to use this extension to curb my habit of opening too many tabs, so being able to just manually open a new tab and go somewhere there doesn't help.
I think what should happen is that you can open a new tab, but when you search something or try to go to a URL, the tab then closes and goes to the queue.
