I'm having a similar issue. The user appears to be able to upload a profile photo but it doesn't appear. The admin can upload a profile photo on the users profile page and the user can then view it, but if the user attempts to upload the photo it doesn't show up. Is this similar or a completely different problem? I am on Processwire 2.4.0

This should already be fixed on PW 2.5+. No reason to run PW 2.4 anymore unless you need PHP 5.2 support. But let me know if you continue to experience it in 2.5.
