The term "hardware inventory" probably has distinct meaning to readers by default, and I feel that many security practitioners would, quite reasonably, read "hardware inventory" as the set of hardware being managed by or affecting their enterprise; but, the definition clearly states that this term should be strictly limited to the set of hardware components comprising an endpoint. In other words, the term likely has a more general meaning than its definition intends. Then, it seems that we could fix this by changing the label of the term to reflect its narrow definition.
