Fails to build with -P

@eliasp, thanks for the report. What happens if you use https://bootstrap.saltstack.com/develop? |

Same problem here. |

Same issue here. The stable installs are failing because there is no repo to pull the packages from. During the run of install_salt.sh, the script installs repo.saltstack.com as a repo source, but then tries to pull from the following URL:
Nicely formatted URL, but there is not an ubuntu15 directory under /apt/ubuntu. ubuntu12 and ubuntu14 are there (which begs the question what about raring?). The git develop branch does work, but if I wanted to use a develop release to find all the latest bugs, the long time to build everything and the all the development packages on my install (which for some tightly controlled environments is not even considered) then I would have specified develop. It times like this I just start to wonder why I should deal with these headaches and go back to Puppet. It has been a year since the release of vivid it seems that in that time the Saltstack guys could have released an updated version of the Saltstack bootstrap to handle vivid and wily. Does that mean we we are going to have to wait 2-3 years for xenial support? |
@hickey, the next bootstrap release will be released in the next few days. I am running release testing right now. Let me know if there is anything specific you want me to look at. |
Good to know. Thank you! It occurred to me a little while ago (given what I saw on the repo server) that maybe Saltstack is only officially supporting the LTS releases through the stable branch. Not sure if I have ever seen it documented that way. If that is the case, then I apologize for being a little hard on you earlier. |
@hickey, no problem. I definitely understand your frustration, but we probably need to message that better. The support for the latest non-LTS ubuntu I would characterize as best-effort at this point rather than full. Ultimately, we want to support everything that Canonical supports. |
@eliasp I am making my way around some of these bootstrap issues, and I am able to bootstrap an Ubuntu 15.10 machine with
Which installs the latest stable release of Salt, 2016.3.1:

Bootstrap process with
-P
fails on Ubuntu 15.10 (without-P
it fails too because of a non-satisfied dependency on a newer tornado version). How to reproduce:
Create Ubuntu 15.10 filesystem using
debootstrap
(and fix staleresolv.conf
symlink which causes trouble with oldersystemd-nspawn
releases):Launch container from filesystem and bootstrap it:
It'll run into this error (full output further below):
