I have installed salt-minion and salt-master in my Kubuntu 14.04 amd64 desktop for learning purposes from http://ppa.launchpad.net/saltstack/salt/ubuntu/ PPA.

Today, I was notified about system updates, launched Muon update manager, started upgrade, but after some time update process have just stuck at "Waiting for configuration file".

Here's screenshot:
salt-upgrade-muon

Meanwile, in /var/log/apt/term.log I can see this:

$ tail -f /var/log/apt/term.log
Configuration file '/etc/salt/master'
 ==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
 ==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
   What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
    Y or I  : install the package maintainer's version
    N or O  : keep your currently-installed version
      D : show the differences between the versions
      Z : start a shell to examine the situation
 The default action is to keep your current version.
*** master (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

I am not sure if it's package bug not using some kind GUI "questioning interface" (or whatever) or it's actually Muon bug I should report to Ubuntu bug tracker for not handling .deb questions.

@Talkless, this looks to be an upstream bug with muon. The log output you've posted is what happens when on a debian-based system, there are changes to a configuration file that the package manager is going to overwrite, so it asks the user what to do. Muon should probably handle this by creating a dialog window that does effectively the same thing as the command line output.

I've created bug report for muon:

Closing as it's irrelevant for Salt.
