I have a rather complex Salt application to distribute (https://github.com/trebuchet-deploy/trebuchet), which needs to include custom runners, modules, states, etc.. There's no easy way to do this currently, and simply allowing some of the configuration elements to be extended or having a system similar to custom grains, would fix this situation relatively well.
