I'm not sure where to post this, because I believe it is more of an issue with my PC than with DAS, but thought someone might be able to suggest a solution...

The PC is running 64-bit Windows 10 Pro, and has 16GB of RAM, CPU is: Intel i7-4900MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz. (I upgraded it from Windows 7 Pro about a month ago). ...and just last week, I noticed these issues:

  • It has started to run very slow, with programs frequently showing the "Not Responding" tag. Apps take a LONG time to load (e.g.: MS Excel takes 30 - 45 seconds to load whereas just 3 seconds before these issues started).
  • The Audio from the PC (both, it's internal speaker, and any attached external speaker), has lots of static, and at times the audio slows-down; HOWEVER, the audio stream via DAS does not have the static. I mostly use iTunes as the audio source.
  • The Audio from DAS sometimes cuts-out, which I am assuming is due to this PC's overall slowing-down.

I have scanned the PC several times, but haven't found any malware or unknown programs. I have selectively disabled some Apps from the StartUp process & done cold boots, but the static & slow-down still persists.

I have reviewed installation dates for all Apps & programs to identify any updates that have occurred recently, but nothing appeared out of the ordinary...

I have ordered a replacement PC, but would like to figure out if this PC has a hardware or software issue... If it software, I will continue to look for a solution; however, if it is a hardware issue (i.e.: Motherboard, etc), I will purge & retire it.

My thanks in advance for any suggestions on trouble-shooting this.

SOLVED!!!

My PC has a 2.80 GHz CPU, but it was running at only 0.35 GHz -- ALL THE TIME...

After a few different searches, I found a discussion that indicated a low battery could cause this. Even though my PC is always on A/C power, I shut it down, removed the battery, and restarted it on just A/C power. It is now running consistently above 3.0 GHz!!!

This also vastly improved the DAS performance, which was clearly impacted by the low CPU speed.

Not sure how my battery caused this because it was fully charged, so I will continue to research.

In any case, it doesn't hurt to check your CPU speed every now & then:

2.6.0

I start and stop DAS by right-clicking on the tray icon and then clicking on a group.

A "Reset Settings" now causes the list of devices and groups to be duplicated in the list displayed bya right-click on the tray icon.
