I see. There are a few possible reasons why the filter type is not selecting.

The filter type may be disabled. To check this, go to the Data tab and make sure that the Filter button is enabled.
The filter type may not be compatible with the data in the column. For example, you cannot use a text filter on a column of numbers.
There may be a blank row or column in the data range. Blank rows and columns can prevent filters from working properly.
If the filter type is enabled and compatible with the data, and there are no blank rows or columns, then the problem may be with the filter itself. Try clearing the filter and reapplying it.

As for the search bar closing automatically, this is likely due to a setting in your browser. To prevent the search bar from closing automatically, you can change this setting in your browser's preferences.

Here are the steps on how to change this setting in Chrome:

Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the top right corner.
Select "Settings".
Scroll down and click on "Advanced".
Under "Privacy and security", click on "Content settings".
Under "Cookies and site data", click on "Manage exceptions".
Enter the URL of the website where the search bar is closing automatically and select "Block".
Click on "Save".
Once you have changed this setting, the search bar should no longer close automatically when you write a word to search.
